DIALANG is a freely available language diagnosis system.It was developed by a consortium of European higher education institutions with support from the European Commission’s Socrates programme (1996-2004), and is now funded and maintained on a “pro bono” basis by Lancaster University (UK). DIALANG The DIALANG system, which can be downloaded from the DIALANG Web site www.dialang.org, was officially launched in March 2004. The DIALANG system, which is based on the proficiency scales of the Council of Europeís Common European Framework of Reference, offers tests in reading, writing, listening, vocabulary and grammar. DIALANG is a new European project which is developing diagnostic language assessment tools in 14 European languages. The 14 languages of the DIALANG project include all the official EU languages as well as Irish, Icelandic and Norwegian. DIALANG does not give you a certificate which you could use, for example, to apply for a job or entry to an educational institution. If you need such a certificate, you should take a language test offered by an officially recognized testing board either in your own country or abroad.
